Who Are the 144,000?
.
They are only mentioned in Revelation 7:4-8 and Revelation 14:1-5. Are these literal numbers, or is the number symbolic of the completeness of the number of the saved from both the Old and New Testament ages? The Bible isn't completely clear on this. A significant number of Bible scholars hold that it is symbolic of those who have been victorious, spiritual Israel who has come through the great tribulation.

They are sealed with the seal of the living God. They are declared to be blameless, without guile (Revelation 14:5), are the only ones able to sing the new song before the throne and before the four living creatures (Revelation 14:3), and are protected during the time of universal destruction during the seven last plagues. Revelation 14:3 seems to be saying that this number represents all the saved who are redeemed from the earth, and if this is so, they are the same as the great multitude that no one could number (Revelation 7:9,10).
