Did Jesus Preach to the Dead?
| "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water." (1 Peter 3:19) NKJV |

What is the meaning of 1 Peter 3:18-19? If you look closely, you will see that it doesn’t say that Jesus preached to the dead. It says that through the Holy Spirit (verse 18) He preached to the people of Noah’s day. When Noah was building the ark, he warned the people that a flood was coming to destroy the world. His message was from Jesus through the Holy Spirit. The words of the text say plainly, “He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also He went and preached.” That is, through the Spirit He preached to the wicked of Noah’s day.
